It’s obvious that we live in tumultuous times and these times bring about heavy uncertainty, and with that violence. Violence always begets violence and should never be tolerated. Yet our emotions run high and we are quick to take to the proving grounds of social media to make our points and to set walls and cast our volleys with memes and images hurriedly improvised.
Anger, violence, division, insularity. Remember though, as one who claims to be a follower of Christ that we are a people set apart to reflect His light. Your peace and your standing do not lie in the kingdom of men. Your peace does not lie in broken legislation, elections or political parties. This is the stuff of a fragmented world that often causes us to react with unchecked emotion. This should not rule one who calls Christ his Lord because it can only lead to ruin.
In John 14 verse 27, Jesus encouraged His disciples (and us) that they would be facing increasing challenges and difficulties in the world. He gave them this charge though, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Your peace and your hope are in Christ and Him alone. Not in a man. It isn’t a peace that swells and dips within waves of emotion, but a peace anchored and set deep in stone. A peace unwavering and steady. Although uncertainty is a valid and normal thing, we should be quick to remember that He is the rock we set our peace on. This can be unshakable and solid within us, even though our hearts can be both fickle and easily swayed, we still can stand firm in these uncertain days.
